WHAT’S NEW IN EYES?

Hi-Tech Equipment and Early Detection of Eye Disease!

As with all medical conditions, the key to managing eye disease is regular eye health assessments, and early detection. It is therefore imperative that all medical practitioners, including optometrists, invest in the latest and most technologically advanced diagnostic equipment, so they can provide the highest and most thorough level of care for their patients.

Here at Michael A Wicks & Associates, we have continually updated and expanded our range of eye testing equipment, to ensure we can continue to provide our patients with the highest level of eyecare. We have recently upgraded our consulting room equipment, and can provide our patients with the ultimate in digital retinal imaging , with our Kowa Digital Retinal Camera , and the most thorough full-field vision assessment , with our Medmont Automated Perimeter .

With all of our diagnostic eye testing equipment, we are able to continue to provide our patients with the very best level of eyecare in detecting, managing, and screening for a wide variety of eye conditions including macular degeneration , diabetes , glaucoma , and cataracts . If you have, or suspect you have, any of these conditions, or if you have a family member with a history of these eye conditions, you should have your eyes examined at least every year. Don't leave it too late, and be told 'sorry there is nothing we can do to improve your vision'.

Ring today for an appointment, and remember to advise us should you have an eye condition, or a family history of an eye condition.

Behavioural Optometry Services Now Available!

We are proud to announce that we now provide Behavioural Optometry services at our practice. Behavioural Optometry involves the investigation of potential visual processing problems in children, that may lead to learning difficulties, and consequently poor school performance.

Our experienced optometrists can now provide a comprehensive service to those children that are considered at a high risk of suffering a visual processing problem that is affecting their school performance. This service includes the assessment, diagnosis, and management of such problems through a range of treatment alternatives.

If you, a family member, or the school teacher are concerned that your child may have a visual processing problem, please call us today to organise an assessment for your child. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can provide enormous benefits for both your child's development, and school achievement.

New Advances in Contact Lens Technology!

Contact lenses have gone through dramatic advances over recent years. We now have a huge range of contact lens products, and possible wearing modalities, that can be customised to suit any eye, and any prescription.

Daily disposables, coloured disposables, extended wear options you can sleep in, astigmatism correction, bifocal contact lenses, and new silicon-hydrogel materials designed to suit allergy sufferers and dry eye problems, are all readily available.

If you've always wanted to try contact lenses, or have tried and failed previously, now is the perfect time to try again.

Is your child falling behind at school?

Vision plays a very important role in a child's development, and progress at school. If the visual system does not function correctly, learning can be significantly compromised.

Children require good vision to co-ordinate eye movements, maintain clear vision as they read, and make quick focusing changes when looking up to the board and back to their desks. They must be able to interpret, and accurately process, what they are seeing.

Children can present with a variety of problems including myopia(short-sightedness), hyperopia(long-sightedness), astigmatism(distortion of vision), amblyopia(lazy eye), and strabismus(turned or crossed eyes). All of these conditions can lead to headaches, fatigue, and a range of other eyestrain problems.

An eye examination by an experienced optometrist can diagnose, and then treat the relevant problem, usually with prescription spectacles, vision training, or a combination of both.

If you are suspicious that your child may have a vision problem, ring today for an appointment with one of our experienced optometrists. Early detection can save years of struggling!!!

Remember, for your convenience we are open until 8:00pm on Thursday evenings. These appointments, as with school holiday appointments, do book several weeks in advance so make sure you book early.
